Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya or ‘The Smoke That Thunders,’ is a natural wonder of staggering power and beauty on the Zambian side. As the massive Zambezi River plunges over the edge of the plateau, it creates a mist that can be seen from miles away, drenching the surrounding rainforest in a permanent rain. Walking across the Knife-Edge Bridge, you are surrounded by the roar of the water and the sight of massive rainbows dancing in the spray. For the adventurous, the famous Devil’s Pool offers a chance to swim right at the very edge of the falls during the dry season, looking down into the 100-meter abyss below. It is an experience of raw elemental power that leaves you soaked to the bone and completely awestruck.
